When a model is redesigned, it's normal for it to offer a lot of new technologies. When that model is called the CR-V, one of the best-selling models in North America every year, it's normal that the list of new features is extensive.
Here are three that caught our attention.
The hybrid engine
The current generation of the CR-V was not offered in hybrid configuration, but we know that it was being driven elsewhere on the planet. Honda has corrected the situation for the new generation and this time, we'll have the most economical model in the lineup.
The good news is that we'll be getting the fourth generation of the system, which means the most up-to-date and efficient approach.
And the most powerful, too. In fact, the system gains 3 horsepower to offer 204, then 11 lb-ft of torque to suggest 247. All of this is thanks to the work of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and a dual electric motor configuration.
Fuel economy figures are a secret for now, but we're not worried; they'll make headlines!
Interior design
On board, there will be a lot of interesting things to look at. One sentence in Honda's press release caught our attention during the presentation of the model. It talks about a stabilizing technology for the front seats that promises to reduce driving fatigue. The seats will also promote better posture. That's something to look forward to.
Then, in the back, cargo space is intact. There are even a few gains: 3 liters behind the second row (1,113 liters), and 20 liters with the second row folded flat (2,166 liters). The CR-V was a benchmark in this area; it remains so thanks to the ingenuity of its creators.
Safety
Then, when it comes to safety, there's a host of new features. In no particular order, we're talking about blind spot information, a driver attention monitoring system, a rear seat belt reminder and also the addition of rear side airbags and knee airbags. And Honda is even talking about a new generation of front airbags.
Truly, the CR-V has never been safer.
Don't hesitate to stop by and see the model when it comes out. We'll get to see the regular version first, and then the hybrid variants.
