Toyota is bringing a new player to the sub-compact SUV segment this year, the Corolla Cross. There's no doubt that it has a bright future. However, in order to win, it will have to offer as much as its competitors, and on that point, nothing is won, especially when we compare it to the HR-V, the model that has been making the headlines for ages in this category.
Let's see how the HR-V remains a more interesting proposition, despite its slightly older design.
The boo-boos are fixed
When a new model arrives on the market, it is often plagued by minor glitches. This is anticipated. So, expect the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross to experience small problems in its debut, which often plagues freshly designed models. To avoid this, the HR-V is the obvious choice, as this SUV has been on the market since 2016. Its recalls (there have been three compared to the Corolla's four since 2018) have come and gone, and its boo-boos are fixed.
So it's a proven and indestructible model that awaits you with the HR-V.
Space to spare
Inside the HR-V, it's the Klondike when it comes to space, as everything has been thought out to offer the maximum in cargo space (1665 liters are possible), but also the most clearance for occupants. The biggest difference is in the back, where people who have to get in will feel like they're sitting in a midsize SUV because the legroom is so generous. Remember that the HR-V is based on the Fit's chassis, which made its reputation because of its incredible interior volume for its size.
A better choice financially?
In the U.S., where Corolla Cross prices are known, the model is more expensive than the Honda HR-V. So we can expect the same thing to happen here. What's more, when Toyota introduces a new vehicle, it is usually offered with higher interest rates. At Honda, the HR-V benefits from advantageous terms, so in the end, you'll get a better deal, financially speaking, with Honda's little baroudeur.
For all its work, it is to be considered first.
