The 2024 Honda Prologue is one of the most anticipated electric vehicles coming to the market next year, and this week Honda provided more information on its new EV including its charging capability, range, and performance.
Range and Charging
The 2024 Honda Prologue is anticipated to feature a substantial EPA range of over 450 kilometers on a single charge and supports DC fast charging, positioning it as a versatile vehicle for both city driving and highway adventures.
Honda is collaborating with six other automakers to inaugurate a high-speed, brand-neutral charging network across the United States and Canada, operational by summer 2024. This network aims to provide comprehensive coverage and excellent customer experiences with ultra-fast (350 kW+) charging points. This network’s rollout intends to make long-distance electric travel more accessible, with 30,000 charge points planned across 1,350 charging stations by 2030.
The Prologue’s 85 kWh lithium-ion battery offers quick and convenient recharging, with over 100 km of range replenished in approximately 10 minutes utilizing DC fast charging.
Performance
Honda Prologue is designed to offer an engaging and refined driving experience, complementing its neo-rugged aesthetics. Every trim features standard all-wheel drive and a dual motor generating an estimated 288 hp and 333 lb.-ft. of torque, ensuring responsive and swift acceleration.
Design
The vehicle's design, conceptualized by a team at the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles, embodies a simple, clean, neo-rugged design concept, displaying a sleek silhouette and a stable stance, accentuated by optional 21-inch wheels. Its extensive dimensions and roomy interior place it alongside the Honda Passport in the light truck lineup, being both longer and wider than the CR-V, and featuring standard 19-inch wheels.
Interior Tech and Space
The vehicle's interior is meticulously designed, maximizing functionality and utility. The cabin features a two-tiered center console with extensive storage capacity, accommodating large bottles and enabling the placement of two smartphones side-by-side. The Prologue is also equipped with Honda's first pocket type wireless smartphone charger.
The design prioritizes an open and airy feel, further enhanced by an available panoramic roof, and the model offers up to 3,877 liters of interior space, comfortably seating five. The Prologue’s tech-savvy cabin integrates Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto™ compatibility, and houses two high-definition digital screens and an intuitive 11.3-inch touchscreen, with touring trims adding a 7x3-inch head-up display (HUD).
Users have the flexibility to display Google Maps on either of the available screens, enabling advanced navigation and route planning. This feature is particularly useful as it not only suggests optimal routes but also recommends convenient charging stations along the way, ensuring efficient travel times. Additionally, Google Maps is capable of calculating the approximate time needed to charge the vehicle sufficiently to reach the planned destination.
When approaching a DC fast-charging station, the system can commence the battery preconditioning process, a feature that significantly trims down the charging durations. This efficiency in charging operations means users can resume their journeys with minimal delay, enhancing the overall travel experience.
The 2024 Honda Prologue is a symbol of Honda's innovative approach to melding efficient performance, user-friendly technology, and aesthetic design in automotive manufacturing. Its substantial range, versatile charging options, engaging driving experience, and tech-rich interior make it a significant contender in the electric SUV market, presenting a glimpse into the future of eco-friendly automotive solutions by Honda.
