The Honda Accord began its journey over 40 years ago and established itself as one of the world's best-selling mid-size sedans. It has a bright future with the 2021 model lineup, which includes advanced technology, turbocharged power, hybrid efficiency, and many standard features. Aspiring Accord owners have a total of eight sedan and hybrid trims to choose from.
Over the years, the Accord has successfully taken on plenty of new competition. Here, we compare the Accord to the 2021 Kia K5.
The 2021 Honda Accord has efficiency that isn't beaten
The Accord offers three powertrains that rank high for a power and efficiency balance. The SE, Sport, E-XL, and Touring trims feature a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque.
The K5's competing powertrain, a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, falls behind with an output of only 180 horsepower. The Accord engine also has an outstanding fuel consumption rating that is as low as 7.8 L/100 km in the city and 6.5 L/100 km on the highway. The K5's best rating is a much less efficient 9.2 L/100 km in the city and 6.9 L/100 km on the highway.
The Accord upgrades to a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder in the Sport 2.0 and Touring 2.0 models. This powertrain outputs an impressive 252 horsepower and very responsive 272 lb-ft of torque. Although the K5 also has a more powerful engine, it is only available with the highest trim level (GT).
The 2021 Honda Accord has a hybrid, unlike its competitor
What really puts the Accord ahead is the availability of a hybrid. The Accord Hybrid features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and a high-output electric motor. Both combine to produce a net 212 horsepower, which is more than the base Accord and K5 engines. The fuel consumption rating of 5.0 l/100 km in the city and 5.0 L/100 km on the highway is one of the industry's best sedan hybrid ratings. Overall, it is the best rating in this comparison.
The Accord includes a more comfortable and spacious interior with many other features, including driver assistance technologies. Standard on each model are Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist System, Blind Spot Information (BSI) system, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor system, and more.
