Spring 2024 Marks Arrival of Canada-Produced Honda Civic Hybrid

Award-Winning Engine Technology Sets Stage for a Greener Civic Lineup

In a significant leap towards a sustainable automotive future, Honda has revealed that the much-anticipated Civic Hybrid will make its entrance into the U.S. and Canadian markets in 2024. The spotlight is on Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) in Alliston, Ontario, where the sedan variant will commence production next spring. The hatchback will roll out shortly after from Indiana Auto Plant in Greensburg, Indiana. Both facilities are no strangers to hybrid tech, already overseeing the Honda CR-V Hybrid production.

Yoshiyuki Nakazawa, HCM's General Manager and Executive Vice President, heralded the Canadian plant as the linchpin for North American Civic Hybrid production. The introduction of this hybrid model is not just a feather in Canada’s automotive cap but also a cornerstone of Honda's worldwide electrification game plan. Honda is banking on the Civic Hybrid to contribute significantly, projecting it to account for over 40% of Civic sales across North America.

An Engine That's More Than Just Horsepower

This new Civic Hybrid is slated to house Honda’s globally acclaimed two-motor hybrid-electric system. The powertrain is not just efficient but also performance-oriented, having already clinched the Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems award in the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid. As part of its wider environmental commitment, Honda aims for complete carbon neutrality by 2050 and plans for all new vehicle sales to be electric or fuel cell models by 2040.

The Civic Hybrid emerges as a multifaceted icon—representing Honda’s technical innovation, Canadian manufacturing prowess, and the automotive industry's green evolution.
