When the Nissan Rogue was redesigned for 2021, many claimed that it had just become the most interesting model in the compact SUV category. That's debatable, of course, as a model like the Honda CR-V was still more popular with enthusiasts.
Still, it's an interesting comparison between the two, and doubly so this year when Honda's flagship model comes to market completely redesigned. So it's a battle at the top that awaits us, but there are no surprises at the finish line; Honda remains ahead.
The following elements will demonstrate that.
The hybrid version
Nissan recently added an engine to its Rogue, a 1.5-litre turbo 3-cylinder. The goal was to improve fuel economy. That's noble, but compared to the work Honda did with the new generation CR-V, it falls flat. It's simple: with the hybrid version that Honda is launching here, it's the most frugal of the models we're measuring here.
Interior space
When it comes to interior space, the Honda CR-V has always set an example throughout the industry in its category, so much so that it has often been imitated by the competition. The new Nissan Rogue has done very well in this regard, as Nissan has really made an effort to offer maximum cargo space to its customers. It's very good at 2098 litres, but Honda does better with a total of 2166 litres.
Resale value
Finally, one element has always been to the advantage of the CR-V and continues to be so with the current generations offered by Honda and Nissan. It is the resale value of the models after a few years on the market. While Nissan has made progress in this area, Honda has reached a standard that is becoming a reference throughout the automotive world.
The new CR-V delivers on all levels and proves beyond doubt that it is still the most relevant model in the compact SUV segment.
